How much can I save on taxes?

How do you hire your kids if you don't want them to be on social media?
For young children (ages 1–5), the easiest way to get started is through simple tasks that use their image, voice, or presence without exploiting their privacy. Examples include: featuring their silhouette or hands in branded thank-you cards or client appreciation mailers. We include a full list of age-appropriate job ideas—plus guidance on how to document everything legally—in the Kids on Payroll Toolkit.
Do I have to pay payroll taxes for my child?
It depends the structure of your business. We go through a few options to structure to avoid paying payroll taxes
Does my child have to file a tax return?
Typically if they earn under $15k for the year they do not need to file a tax return unless theres a compelling reason.
Do I need to hire my child on payroll or can I hire my child as a 1099?
You can do either option, we go through the details in the toolkit.
Is this legal?
Yes! Hiring your kids is 100% legal when done right. This toolkit walks you through every step to stay compliant with IRS rules.
What age do my kids need to be?
In most states your child can be any age. As young as a newborn and also over 18. We go through state by state rules and the best options for your family. The most tax savings are for under 18 however there are still benefits for over 18.
Do I need an LLC or can I be a sole proprietor?
You can be a sole propertior, an LLC, a corp, all business structures will work. However, there are different rules for each. We explain more details in the toolkit.
Is this only for U.S. businesses?
Yes, this toolkit is designed for U.S.-based business owners and tax law.
What if need help setting up an LLC or other entity?
We include a resource to set up your entities at hard costs only (i.e. filing fees)
How do I comply with child labor laws?
The work needs to be non-hazardous and age-appropriate. You have to comply with your state's labor laws. The toolkit gives state by state resources. For example, in some states if your child is school aged you'll need to apply for a work permit (to ensure it's not interfering with their school work).
What if I need a CPA to help me implement this strategy?
We share with you a trusted CPA resource who will do a complimentary initial strategy sesssion with you.
What forms/documentation do I need?
We recommend a work activity log, documentation of reasonable pay rate and a paper trail (i.e. paying by check to child's bank account). We give templates and instructions in the toolkit.
What if my CPA doesn't know how to use this strategy?
We share with you a trusted CPA resource who will do a complimentary initial strategy sesssion with you.
How much do I need to pay my kids to make this strategy work for me?
You choose how much to pay your child. The max you can invest in a Roth IRA is $7k per year (however you don't need to pay them that much if you can't afford that). For example, you can pay them as little as $100 per year and they'd still see benefits if it's invested in a custodial ROTH IRA>
